SHARING SESSION
Recently, a muzakarah on Silat Cakak Asli Brunei with our YDP G41 was organized to know more about our mainstream 'beladiri'. Briefly, as an introduction, 'Silat Cakak' may be look as a soft 'dancelike' art of self defense but it is highly destructive for those mastering this silat. The bunga silat of Cakak Asli is very much different from any other silat especially when we focus at the repetitive movements of the hand positions. The slow smooth flow of proper repetitive movements of the entire body holds its own personal precious meanings of concepts and philosophies that give rise to combative (defensive and striking) techniques that should be understood and learned carefully.
In ‘Silat Cakak’ there are 6 basic ‘tempur’ skills called ‘rangkaian’. It comprised of 1.Tumbuk kanan 2. Tumbuk kiri 3.Balah 4. Simbur 5.Paras and 6.Radak. These 6 basic striking moves are always done in sequence, proper manner and with respect whenever ‘Silat Cakak’ sparring is to be practiced. In terms of ‘langkah’ , in ‘Silat Cakak’ the ‘langkah’ being practiced is not far different from other types of silat, to name a few: Commonly use ‘langkah’ in ‘Silat Cakak’ are ‘Langkah Tiga’ and ‘Pacah Ampat’.
Akhir kata, silat adalah seni beladiri Melayu yang mempunyai keunikannya tersendiri dan mempunyai penuh adat dan adab yang perlu dipelihara dan diwarisi.
Wassalam.
